Adventures in Running, Part II

Another video entry this week. Even though my Horsethief run and this run were over the course of 1 weekend, it has taken me almost a month to get both videos edited and uploaded.  I’m still getting the hang of this video editing business, plus it pushes my creatively challenged skills.

The Back Story

My local run club, the Mesa Monument Striders, hosted a run/race at Crag Crest Trail on the Grand Mesa on July 10, 2016.  I have been wanting to do some running up on the Mesa – as the locals call it – for quite awhile, but I didn’t want to go up on the mountain trails by myself. Lisa and I tried to organize a trip up there a couple times, but between work and family schedules, we just haven’t managed to pull it together. When the Striders email announced the Crag Crest run, I knew this would be the perfect opportunity for me to get up there and run with some company.  I pitched the idea to Wayne –  we could go up together and he could go fishing while I ran – how could he resist?

This ended up to be quite an emotional roller coaster of a run for me. I don’t know if other people get so emotional when they are running or facing a challenge, but this run bares my soul a bit. I’m an extrovert and running alone in the mountains or the desert challenges me. It makes me feel lonely and exposed and vulnerable. But when all was said and run, I ran across Crag Crest at 11,000 feet – my first high elevation run.  Maybe it will plant a seed for a Leadville run?

Thanks for reading and watching. I’d love to hear what you think. Remember, I’m an extrovert – I love the interaction and feedback.

Happy Running.

  1. What a gorgeous place to run!! You inspire me!! That scene seems like a much happier place to run than the desert. But I agree it could be scary. I would wear a bear bell!!

    1. Thanks Heather! It is absolutely gorgeous and I can’t wait to get back up there. There was some older hikers I passed that were wearing bells. I figured I was talking and singing enough to keep the bears away. 🙂

  2. You can really hear the wind in parts of the video Angela.

Have much respect for you to tackle this trail, but also how you share your anxieties and vulnerabilities. I can definitely see myself in the same way. The elevation, the remoteness, the ruggedness would be overwhelming to me and bring to the surface so many inner feelings.

You made it, and didn’t give up on yourself. Thanks for sharing this. Extremely well done with the music, the views and the commentary! I am always one who loves blogger who embrace interaction and feedback! 🙂

    1. Oh my gosh it was so windy, especially across the top of the ridge. Thanks so much for reading! Challenges always give us an opportunity to learn something about ourselves and the world around us.
