My friend Christina has inspired (read – peer pressured) me in many ways and it is her most recent blog post that has inspired this post. Every Monday is Music Monday over at arunningmess.com and this week was dedicated to running friends that are injured and those injuries as told through the titles of 80s songs. It was a great read and featured some classic 80s hits, including “Time after Time” by Cyndi Lauper and “Hurt So Good” by John Cougar (before the Mellencamp).
Now I’m a bit of a music fiend myself and I love a good playlist. But for me, if we’re talking about the 80s, we’re talking about rock-n-roll and heavy metal. I’m sure in the future there will be a Throwback Thursday post featuring spandex and leather. On with the list:
An old injury flares up during a race: “The Last in Line” by Dio
Doctor suggests cross training or rest days: “Looks that Kill” by Motley Crue
You go get a massage: “Dr. Feelgood” by Motley Crue
Pain returns during next run: “Drop Dead Legs” by Van Halen
Doctor says no running for 4-6 weeks: “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin'” by Judas Priest
Doctor says no running for 4-6 weeks or you’ll never run again: “Condition Critical” by Quiet Riot
You do everything the doctor says plus what anyone on Twitter tells you: “Seek and Destroy” by Metallica
You get angry at running because you’re still injured: “I Hate Myself for Loving You” by Joan Jett
You are willing to try anything to get better: “Lay Your Hands on Me” by Bon Jovi
You miss running and start to cry: “Without You” by Motley Crue
Your friends and family avoid you because you’re grouchy: “We’re Not Gonna Take It” by Twisted Sister
You surrender to the fact that rest is working: “Patience” by Guns N Roses
You talk to other runners about your injury: “Don’t Know What You Got (Til It’s Gone)” by Cinderella
Doctor says you can ease back into running: “Slow and Easy” by Whitesnake
You run for 20 minutes pain-free: “Back on the Road Again” by REO Speedwagon
Doctor gives you a full release: “Run to the Hills” by Iron Maiden
Hope you enjoyed the list. Do your planks and your clamshells, people. Stay strong and “Keep on Runnin'” (by Journey)
Love your list!! Way to really rock it!! 🙂
